I have browsed the iControlPad webpage and the forums but have been unable to find the size constraints for the universal clamp. Specifically I would like to know the maximum width that is compatible with the universal clamp (I have the Droid Razr Maxx, which is pretty wide at 70mm). If it is confirmed that the Razr will fit in the iControlPad I will go ahead and place my order but I do not want to order it until I am sure my phone will fit. Gametel (your ripoff cousin) has a nice spec page that shows the dimensions of the device; it may be good to create a similar page for the iControlPad rather than just a list of some phones that work (I have been Google searching the dimensions of phones on the list to try to see if any are 70mm or above: not the most convenient way to determine compatibility). I'd definitely prefer to purchase your product if my phone fits though. If I can't get an official answer maybe one of my fellow forum members with an iControlPad can simply measure the width at maximum extension (or if someone has used it with the Razr that would be even better). Thank you.

This sounds like a good idea actually.Might be more efficient.

When I get mine I will measure the maximum distance the best I can...will even post a picture. Mine has been shipped last week and should arrive soon.
Edit - oops, I see this is a little old. I will still do it.

Ok I got mine today and measured the largest setting the universal clamp can do without modification. It looks like about 71mm. I believe the Razr is 68.9mm so it WILL work without modification.
On taller phones the top and bottom of the phone will rest on the rubber pads but they are soft enough that I think they would just squish down to accomodate.

Thank you for this useful information. Can you measure the maximum "thickness" of a device? I'm still not sure if the Evo3D could fit this thing with 11.3mm (especially at the bottom)

Sure, I will tonight. The lip on the front of the controller is pretty small and the sides are both rubber.
If the phone is too thick for the actual slot then worst case scenario you would need to drill a new hole in the universal mount so it is slightly taller and the phone would rest on the rubber sides and front lip of the ICP rather than in the groove of the controller (like the iphone does).
You could even get some foam (like weather stripping, they have it at walmart or home depot) and fill in the slot in the controller, it would take a very small strip, and your phone would rest on that.
But, yeah, I'll measure the actual width tonight between the lip on the controller and the universal mount.
On taller phones the top and bottom of the phone are probably going to be resting on the rubber sides. They are nice and soft though so I think the phone will just squish into them. I haven't really used the universal mount yet since I just got it and mostly wanted it to pair with my laptop. I have a Nexus S and the curved screen might give me some issues since the curve effectively makes the phone seem like it is about 13mm thick if you just lay it down on its screen on a table and measure its height. Hard to explain but I will probably have to do the same thing that someone with a really thick phone would do like I mentioned above due to the curve in my screen.
The controller feels awesome though. The buttons and d-pad work and feel great. You can easily slide it into your pocket and it feels exactly like a second cell phone.

I feel like an idiot. I reported that original measurement wrong. You see on my tool where it says in and out. That means measuring inside or outside of the object...not the tool, lol. I quoted the outside measurement by mistake. I have fixed my post. The Razr will fit since the largest size the universal can get is 71mm as you can see in the pics. Sorry.
As for thickness. The gap between the lip of the ICP and the universal clamp is 13mm. Should be fine for the EVO 3D all the way around. You can see the rubber sides easy here. They are real soft.

Awesome! Thanks again. I was getting worried about the back camera, but apparently there's enough room. I took those 11.3mm off the web and don't know if they take the cam into account. It's covering the part where the clamp would be and sticks out about 1mm.
Also thanks for taking pictures, I didn't find a single photo that would properly show the top of the device, let alone a measurement. Good to see the rubber sides won't cause trouble as well.
If there was a thanks button, I'd press the shit out of it

Thank you so much for this extremely useful information Offkilter and the nice pictures to go with it. I was getting very frustrated by the fact that I could not get a straight reply. It still seems pretty lame that the iControlPad support staff couldn't bother to reply to my e-mail or forum post, but at least you came through with the info I needed. Thanks again, the measurements and pictures are great.

No problem
In case anyone is curious my Nexus S fits just fine without any modification. I just added a piece of foam padding...similar to the included tape but I used some different stuff I had which is a little thicker to the clamp and to the ICP. The foam actually adds enough of a gap that my power button doesn't get pressed when the Nexus is in the ICP which is great since the power button is on the side.

I got my iControlpad today. The droid Razr Maxx fits with the universal clamp extended to its maximum length with no modification required. It fits quite well as is but I added one piece of the foam for a little tighter fit. Thanks again Offkilter for giving me the info I needed.
