Some feedback for clamp set 1:

Note that you might be able to pad phones which are too small to fit using rubber or foam parts,
for phones which are very slightly too big you might be able to sand the clamp down.

Note: This list no longer contains phones with visible keypads (they tend to be impractical even if they fit).

Touch based phones which fit:

iphone 3 (iOS Phone)

iphone 3G (iOS Phone)

original iPhone (iOS Phone)

iphone 3GS (iOS Phone)

Motorola Backflip (needs padding) (Android Phone)

Lg Optimus S (Android phone)

Lg Ally (Android phone)

ipod touch 8GB (metal back) (requires padding) (iOS Phone)

Blackberry Torch (RIM OS phone)

Samsung Intercept (may require adjustment) (Android phone)

HTC Dream (also marketed as T-Mobile G1 in the US and parts of Europe and Era G1 in Poland) (Android phone) (Needs confirmation)



Almost fit (may require home hack):

iphone (AT&T) 4: almost* fits. gap of about a millimeter on one of the
'edge' pieces when fit together, doesn't lock together - we're looking at this to see if we can weld the mould to accept this phone.

Don't fit:

Motorola Droid - too long, end clamp doesn't fit.

HTC/Sprint EVO: much too large in all dimensions

You really want to get Paul, of MoDaCo fame, to test the iControlPad. Should be able to get some tests against recent/upcoming handsets that will really determine the market for this device in future.

Any BlackBerry + the iControlPad is not a combination I see being common.

how about spring-loaded extendable clamps on 3 sides ?

I have a web cam that the base clamp slides wider to fit most laptop screens, something similar could fit any phones.
and adding a V-shaped rubber on the clamps could hold very thin phones/iPod

likely to be some patent somewhere about that tho.

I would love to see clamps for the iCP to fit a ARCHOS 43 internet tablet, which is basically the iPod touch for Android... without the apples of course

We're hoping we will need a maximum of 3 sets to hold almost every popular phone. We did look at making some kind of elasticated/screw based holding
device but it's a messy solution - we don't want the risk of phones falling out.

We're already looking to make a clamp now for the most popular android phones, it should be neat and tidy and solid.

Quick edit: Motorola Backflip fits too.

Yes. I think 3 sets should do the trick. One for ultra thin devices like the iPod Touches, a medium size for like some android phones and the iphone 4, and a slightly thicker one for the iphone 2g 3g and 3gs and some of the larger android phones

Will a bumper fix the gap on the iPhone 4?

Hmm....the HTC Magic is just a tad smaller than the LG Ally...I'm guessing it'd fit.

Edit: Magic - 113 x 55.56 x 13.65 mm ( 4.45 x 2.19 x 0.54 inches)
LG Ally - 4.56 x 2.22 x 0.62 (116 x 56 x 16 mm)

and the HTC Dream - 117.7 mm x 55.7 mm x 17.1 mm
(4.60 in x 2.16 in x 0.62 in) - though it has a weird angle where the control buttons are rather than being totally flat.
