My new 1Ghz unit is awesome and all, and I know I said I would do some videos for you guys.. (don't worry I still have something planned) I ran into a rather large problem though.

I can't get my USB NIC to work on my new unit. Its a TU2-ET100 TrendNET adapter, which works fine on my original 1st batch unit.

Here's what happens when i insert the device with USB host already enabled

Spoiler

For awhile the adapter works fine, by awhile I mean anywhere from 20-25 seconds.. then it just shuts off until I disable and re-enable USB hub again.

Any input as to what I can do here? Googleing shows me it may be hardware related, and I'd hate to have to return the unit for a non working USB hub..

Just to rule out firmware problems, could you try it on your old unit with exactly the same firmware and kernel?

Sure~ Before I do that would you like to see anything off the CCunit while still running 5a? ( drivers, possible kernel modules, etc. )

Not really, booting old kernel with latest firmware will be enough (assuming it has the required drivers).

Okay, Reflashing now.

[Edit1: Or I'll have the SD card I was using die on me in the process. Great. Changing cards now. -_-]
[Edit2: Fresh reflash of the CCpandora using current firmware also works fine, doesn't matter which kernel it uses, will try reflashing the 1Ghz one too, just to see..]
[Edit3: Same thing as above happening on 1ghz with the LAN NIC. Let me try a flash drive to see if it does similar things..]

If those drives work on the old pandora too, then it looks like the USB port on your 1G unit is busted..

Hmm. that would be interesting to debug, as these units all have passed the USB>Mini-USB>SD2 Mass Storage test - so it was working in the testing environment.
Either something broke afterwards... or something weird is going on here.

As it seems to be working for a while - maybe it's bad soldering?
It might lose contact if you just touch it in this case.

Am not too sure about a simple bad solder joint, if that were true I would see the LAN NIC disconnect / do weird things if I touched it right then and there. It doesn't seem to matter how much I move the adapter about or the USB drives. Same thing happens. =/

If I send my unit back for an RMA.. what do you think the turnaround time will be? I'll likely send along the USB LAN dongle so you can see it yourself, in case it miraculously works in the German air across the pond. :-P

[Edit] The connector itself is pretty tight. Getting something in there takes the "right" amount of force, and it holds in there without a problem.

Well, I can replace it right away, but if USB basically works and then stops working, I'm not sure it will work on a different unit - maybe the dm3730 handles some things different here...?

Does ANY USB device work properly?
I know my USB stick works with my unit...

=/ I'll try reformatting the sticks after data backup finishes and see if its just that the Pandora doesn't like the file system on them.

My cellphone is also doing the same thing as with my LAN adapter above. ( Warning: this is quite long )

Addendum: In this, I had waited a bit realized my phone wasn't doing anything ( not even enumerating ) and reseated the USB piece on the phone.

Seeing this thread: http://boards.openpa...01/#entry189142

Would you still be willing to accept back my current 1Ghz unit if I were to return it? ( Without the battery ) If you can spare another 1Ghz unit straight away? I've held off on returning my unit with the USB issue above for reasons of not having units in stock.

Is it possible to buy a new unit, now. Return the previous one for a full refund of the price I paid? ( That way I don't have to go with out a unit for any length of time )

I would also like to send my CC unit in as well for a new case and right nub. ( I will of course pay for it via donation etc. )

Yes, both is possible. You can either send it back and get a new one or buy a new one and get the refund once it arrives here.

The CC unit can be fixed, of course :)

Sweet! Will be waiting till this Thursday to purchase the 1ghz new unit, once that has arrived here I will return the previous one ( no battery, saves on weight and isn't needed since I have three already. I'll make sure to mention I just need the unit itself, battery door, stylus, but no battery in the order if I can so you can save the time packing it. )

I also want to send you the USB NIC as well which does this, in case you can't replicate the issue. Should be easy enough to find another one for me at a local radio shack etc.

At the time of sending the original 1ghz back I will be sending my CC unit in for the following reasons:

New Case - cracked slightly in a few places and currently held together with gorilla glue for screw taps, I would like a platinum case for better build quality but need a way to differentiate between the two units at first glance.. hmm... Have the black cases been fixed so they don't crack easily? If so I would like the CCUnit to remain in a black case please.

New Right Nub - After the past few years of usage of the nub, it doesn't work right and feels loose compared to the newer nub on the left I had replaced by you later on after purchase.

New Volume Wheel - I've talked about this before. Static bursts, audio cutting in and out when adjusting and if I don't get it just right the balance isn't centered. Contact cleaner didn't help, and unfortunately this became worse to the point where it became painful to use at all. I tried before sealing to reheat the solder joints with a fine tip iron, didn't burn anything, but didn't make a difference in the problem. Its likely bent out of shape slightly inside as when I received it back from the second PTOD fix (Under Warranty, fixed by you) it was and still has been consistently clicking against the case.

Right SD slot - Doesn't give a second click when accepting a card. Not sure if that's a case positioning fault or the slot itself. Never seemed to matter as it held the card and read / wrote and released just fine all the time anyway, just a minor thing that became a quirk of the unit itself.

Poor Wifi Performance - Unless I do "sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off rate 54M" its practically unusable. My 1ghz unit is somewhat better with this, and more stable. Not sure why as I often don't have to bother with the above terminal command unless I'm doing x11vnc over it, or something heavier than SSH.

None of this is me being upset, just stating what I would like to have repaired.

I await your reply ED :-) Thank you all, OPT, for being awesome and really sticking through this whole project. <3

Sadly, there are no strenghtened black cases and I'm not sure WiFi can be fixed (MWeston improved it a bit on the new units, so that might be your issue), but I can fix the rest.

Okay thats fine, and thank you! However I have JUST now discovered a problem with my 1Ghz unit today. If I move the screen in a closing motion the backlight cuts out, and also cuts out when open at a certain angle or less. Seems to adjust fine using FN combo but when moving the lid the light shuts off and comes on again at max brightness somehow. Will likely make a video to showcase what I mean.

Will you still be able to refund me for the returned unit if I buy a fresh one off the shelf? I will be buying a new unit later on tonight if not Friday when my paycheck clears in the bank, pending your response.

Also: What would the cost be to repair the above mentioned things on my CCunit?
