Awesome man, amazing first post >_<

Thanks! :)

Btw, for the people not that familar with linux:
to start game in console after download you eg have to type:
chmod +x unready_pnd
./unready_pnd

And if somebodys console crashes after the game try redownloading,
had a bug on very first submit, but i think not many will have dl that xD

Just chiming in an idea, it's great to see submissions coming in, but for a minority of us who don't have a Pandora yet, do you think somebody could run through them and take some screenshots -- perhaps for a good PandoraPress piece? Thanks. I know it's a distraction from the real and more important business of making the games.

Also, did you say that no more donations can be made? If so, why out of interest?

Thanks again.

Awesome... can you try pnd as soon as poss? Some users will be put off by going through terminal. We can also add it to the app store.

If youre unsure how to pnd up hit the dev section and Im sure someone will help.

First off, an apology:
Sorry for submitting that late, I hit a wall in the last minute and then the upload took forever, I hope it is still okay, though.
Next I am sorry for what state the game is, I got nowhere near I wanted to be. I did not explore the game mechanics as in-depth as I would have liked, did not create many or varied levels and did not got the code optimized as much as possible. (also the game probably tears like hell although there is code in place to prevent that, oh well...)
I also had to cut the planned story completely because it was only halfway finished and I felt like removing it was better for the game than including a "broken" storyline.
I will, however, keep working on the game as I find the concept highly interesting and think that much more can be done with it than I did in the few levels the game currently has.
(Here is a list of "scrapped" stuff, which I plan to add in the future - independent on the outcome of this competition: actual story, another type of level, more levels, levels with more varied graphics and shapes, more unit types - like falling platforms, lasers, keys, etc., race mode - finish the game as fast as possible).
Also later levels scream for a coop mode and I would love to do that, but getting into network-programming and that stuff was totally out of scope for this competition...
Anyway...

GREYOUT

Description
Greyout is a relaxing, yet challenging puzzle-platformer. The first striking things probably is the (almost) monochrome graphics and the simple shapes of the levels.
The reason is simple: The whole collision and physics based aspect revolves around colours, which means simply by moving an object you can change the shape of the level and move the boundaries of the world, because what is solid for the black unit is free space for the white unit.
Then, to fully make it a stereotypical indy-game, there also are red spikes (killing you obviously) and pushable and moving blocks (well... and little else to be honest).
To successfully complete a level you will have to think outside the box and maybe change the way you view matter and space (hopefully ;) ).

Last but not least Greyout includes a simple system for creating your own levels (and chapters) and integrating them into the game. You are able to use all the features I use in the main chapter, too (there even are some currently unused ones).
To create a level all you need is an image editor (GIMP for example) and a text editor - you can easily create levels on the Pandora itself!
A video tutorial and/or documentation will be supplied soon.

The game is very short, you will probably finish it way under an hour (my record is about 6 minutes), still I hope you enjoy it! :)

well i think you're right, so here u are: http://homepages.uni...ora/unready.pnd ;)
Also changed the gamespeed/-dimensions in this pnd for longer guru meditation fun in boring lectures xD
As you probably already recognized, its a typical time-killing game, like falling towers.. :DD))
Normaly the plan was much bigger, but i didnt had the time probably because i spend too much time on other projects or taking drugs to improve my magic xD, so lots of features (even the half-working sound) are cut off and this is what came out! But i'll surely continue working on improving the engine, as expected^^

milkshake: For some reason I was not able to upload the pnd (nor a remote link) on your repo: "failed to insert data: Unknown column 'owner' in 'field list'". any ideas? (though according to the pnd_make script my PXML appears to be valid)

sorry that was my fault i changed something and introduced a bug, but i have fixed it, you may try again :)

You could easily make a forum poll that allows 1st/2nd/3rd choices. Simply create 3 sections to the poll and allow one choice for each. 1st section = 1st choice and so on. Then give 3 points to a game for each vote in the first section, 2 points per vote in the second, 1 point per vote in the third when you add up the points.

On the other hand, doing the voting manually does ensure that the vote is fair, perhaps.

By the way, PND format should really have been a requirement in this contest. Just sending out a warning here that I'm not as likely to try submissions without working PNDs...

P.S. foxblock, yours is brilliant, the best one I've played so far. Could use some touch-ups as you say, but it's already clear that it's a gem. Is there a way to save my progress or come back to a level that I've already finished?

P.P.S @QuantenMagier, thanks for the PND. Do you think you could assign movement to the arrow keys instead of to WASD on the keyboard?

P.P.P.S. I think there would have been more submissions if the deadline had not been right at the end of the university year, when many people have exams and projects.
The Pandorawiki has lists of emulators, games and other software that I help maintain. Those three lists are also the only ones to list all of the Pandora programs that aren't uploaded either to the File Archive or to the Appstore, of which there are quite a few.

I am more active on the GP32X forums than here.

--- Unrelated ---
richiz: Please put a spoiler tag around your code on page 1 or even better post it on pastebin or something like that - currently it makes my firefox hang for like 30seconds after loading the page (probably when a script is inserting the code formatting)
Also it would be nice to include links to our submission posts (with descriptions and screenshots) in the OP.

I'll just delete it then.....I'll try pnd up later and add it onto the front page as a work in progress - not an actual submission...bit like QuantenMagiers game.
edit*Ohh haha Gruso spoliered for me. Couldn't find that for the life of me.

Just had a really fun session testing all these :D I'm not scoring yet (looks like nobody is yet...) but here are some thoughts, in the order I tried them.

Raedr: Pretty cool reflex-based run n' jump (or is it just a jumper?), nice presentation all around. The code is nice, and by that I mean, I like the feel of the jumping & gravity. I hate it when this is all wrong and heavy. Come to think of it, all the games here do this well in their own way. The only thing on the wishlist for this game would be faster start to gameplay after launching, and faster recovery after death. You really just want run and keep running.

The Unready Game: Might be unready, but it is a game. A pretty cool one in fact, and stands out from the other entries by being a pure old school terminal-based scroller. Brought back some memories that I didn't know I had. There's a trick floating around the forums to launch terminal apps fullscreen, that would be a nice addition.

Rescue: Ok, I didn't read anything about this game before downloading. Is there a backstory? Some explanation? If so, I don't want to know it, because this game is best interpreted on the fly. It's surreal and psychedelic (and I dig the psy-trance soundtrack). I won't try to discuss the themes, except to say it transported me somewhere weird straight away - a cool feat. The monsters are menacing, the SFX are jarring, and the subtle sway of the camera gives it a nightmarish quality. This game is a trip. I managed to crash it, hard, but it just seemed like part of the fun.

Wars Commando: This is like, a proper 16bit game. The artwork is on the money, the soundtrack is killer. I don't know what else to say, except I plan to don headphones and spend some quality time running and gunning with this tonight.

Greyout: They say (and they're right) that good game design is introducing a new concept to a player, then building on it and introducing more as gameplay progresses. From the little I've played so far, Greyout seems to have this nailed. From being taught a key combo in the intro level, to 'accidentally' figuring out what I had to do in the next level, the game feels rewarding from the outset. I love a puzzle platformer, and this looks like a great one.

Snowman: I played this last because I had to open Thunar etc (the horror!). It was a very nice surprise. A very polished 2.5D game with a nicely devised gameplay mechanic - I won't give away all the fun but involves gathering the stuff you're made of to better survive the abstract nasties scooting about. I did find the menus a little laborious getting into the first play, but that minor thing aside this looks like another top quality title.

Round of applause for all entrants. :) I'm going to the couch to play some more now.

also changed 4th dim, to the A Nub

Thanks, that is greatly appreciated :) - the game actually should save automatically after completing a level and upon quitting the game, though there appears to be a bug that it does not save the first time (you start the game), if that bug presists on the second+ start try to delete the appdata/greyout/save.me file and if that does not help either let me know and I will look into it (already looking into the first-play bug).
EDIT: Found it - fixed it, will be included in the next update as well as the fix for the sound volume slider

Also agree on the PPPS, I would have had another month of time and probably finished some more levels and the story if it would not have been for my exams, but such is life ;)

sswam and mrz, do you plan on releasing a Windows or Linux build (or at least a few screenshots or a video)?
I guess that would be greatly appreciated by us not-yet-Pandora people :)
(also I can't and won't vote on an entry I have not played obviously and I really don't want to have to vote for my own)

Thanks in advance.
